Method of making bromochloroethane
There is now a method of making 1-bromo-2-chloroethane. First take ethylene and place it in a suitable container with hydrogen bromide and chlorine gas. Control its temperature and pressure to make it suitable. The double bond of ethylene is active, and the hydrogen and bromine of hydrogen bromide and the chlorine atom of chlorine gas want to add to ethylene.
During the reaction, the bromine atom of hydrogen bromide is connected to the carbon at one end of ethylene, and the chlorine atom is connected to the carbon at the other end of chlorine gas, thus forming 1-bromo-2-chloroethane. The chemical equation is as follows:

After the reaction is completed, the product is separated and purified by distillation. Because its boiling point is different from that of impurities, the temperature is controlled in a suitable range. 1-bromo-2-chloroethane is gasified and collected by re-condensation to obtain pure 1-bromo-2-chloroethane. This preparation method is simple and the yield can be observed.
