Formula For Phosphorus Tribromide
Phosphorus ($P $) and bromine ($Br $) can react to form phosphorus tribromide ($PBr_ {3} $). Phosphorus is combined in bromine. When an appropriate amount of phosphorus meets a sufficient amount of bromine, the following changes occur:
$2P + 3Br_ {2}\ stackrel {certain conditions }{=\!=\!=} 2PBr_ {3} $. During this reaction, the color of the considerable bromine fades, and the resulting phosphorus tribromide is a colorless or light yellow fuming liquid. It has a pungent odor and is corrosive. Phosphorus tribromide is widely used in many chemical synthesis fields, and can be used as a brominating agent. It often participates in many important reaction steps in organic synthesis reactions.
